Home Warranties

Hate to tell you, but you are not going to like any home warranty company you switch to. The only time a home warranty company is worth it, is of it comes free for a year with the purchase of your house. Drop them and keep saving for emergencies like you have been. Seems like you're in good shape and doing the right thing

> The only time a home warranty company is worth it, is of it comes free for a year with the purchase of your house. Even then it can still be a waste of time and money. When I bought my house the sellers threw in a year of free home warranty. I tried to use it twice and both times I paid $75 for them to come out and tell me they couldn’t help me with my problem. Hours spent on the phone trying to get somewhere and I was done with it. Worthless garbage.

They're a scam. You'll be much better off keeping your money in savings.

They're garbage, get a product warranty when you upgrade things, that wag you know its covered for X number of years to come.

I found out pretty quickly that my home warranty was useless when they told me it would take them two weeks to fix my refrigerator. Who can go without a refrigerator for two weeks? I did get them to give me cash toward a new refrigerator which was nice. What will you do when it takes them two weeks to fix your furnace during the coldest time of year? The electrical system and plumbing system is interesting, I don't think my home warranty covered those. But it will take them weeks to fix major appliances and you have to go without.

Our home came with a one year warranty. Our coils in the furnace went bad and were replaced. We only paid the $200 deductible so it saved us $900. It took a week to get replaced but that was because the parts took 4 days to arrive on site.

Did you continue the warranty?

It expires in Sep 2021. We know our only potential major expense would be the heat pump, $5-6k, so we will probably keep it just for that. The heat pump is passed its expected life span. We're lucky since most repairs would be DIY so normally we would not keep the warranty. They quoted us $800 to extend another year.
