Faction maps of my post-post apocalyptic America

Looks like the ALA has control of my old home town. Can you tell me more about them?

US_Warfighter

The ALA is a socialist paramilitary group that at their height operated across the East Coasts' major cities. They were inspired by the west coasts' FAA which successfully toppled the California state government in 2116. The ALA fought a short-lived war with the U.S. military remnant from 2119 to 2123 but their power began to fall drastically with the rise of the Capital Government (Washington D.C.) and Haven City. By the mid-2130s, they are a dying organization, despised by most and cut off from their western allies in California. They primarily conduct hit-and-run tactics but struggle to hold on to any large territory.

What happened to the northern lands of the FAA, the United Clans and Paradise State?

US_Warfighter

The lands north of the FAA eventually form the New Republic of Columbia (NRC). I don't have their territory mapped out yet since they are my newest faction. North of the United Clans is mostly under the control of the MCA or NFA. Anything else is either contested between smaller groups or nomad lands.

A couple maps I created for my the universe I am writing. The minor faction map only displays the larger minor factions due to overlapping of territories and shifting borders. The second map only shows the larger factions minus one that I am still working on. As the title suggest, this is a post-post apocalypse universe. In short, a resource crisis in Africa in the 2070s leads to a cold war between the U.S. and China that erupts into a Third World War. WWIII is fought from 2093 to 2108 and leaves much of globalized society/trade in ruins. Nukes are not used on a large scale due to the advent of Laser-Air-Defense (LAD) technology. The total-war nature of WWIII changes global culture, making society much more desensitized to death and violence and effectively eradicates peace-time economics. In addition to the war deaths, famines, plagues, and large-scale acts of terrorism occur on a almost monthly basis. When the war does end, global society struggles to return to peace-time. Countries unable to pay off war debts or secure resources collapse to internal issues as an entire generation comes of age knowing little of the world before war. Consistent electricity and water become scarce even in developed nations and only escalates cultural divisions. People become increasingly desperate as traditional morals are overruled by survival instincts. International trade becomes almost non-existent by 2115 due to increasing piracy and lack of viable ships/fuel making products like computers, microchips, and cell phones increasingly rare. The U.S. federal government falls in 2117 after several states fall to rebellion and anarchy. The UN dissolves in 2118 and the last pre-war government falls in 2120. By 2125, the world's population has fallen to just 4.1 billion people. Most of the world's cities are either abandoned or ruthlessly fought over. With no governments holding them back, long-dead ideologies becomes manifested, extremist political factions begin forming quasi-states and paramilitary regimes, ushering in an "age of transition" for humanity. With the old world dead, a new one is about to rise.

Interesting that you didn't default to nuclear annihilation. So how do these factions came to be? For example is the KKK still racists in this world or do they somehow only ise their name? How accessible is technology to the post apocalyptic survivor? Any major cities? Vert interesting world you have.

US_Warfighter

I didn't want to do nuclear war because I honestly don't see that as likely in this era. Laser Air Defense is in its early phase right now, but both the U.S. and China agree that lasers are the best defense against ICBMs and are very capable against hypersonic weapons. Unlike most sci-fi universes, I predict laser weapons will be more of an air defense role rather than replacing small arms in the future. The cold war/WWIII against China created a resurgence of racism in America (and in the Middle East as well) mostly towards Asians. Because of this, this new KKK isn't as hostile towards Hispanics and blacks as our real-life counterpart. They are more like nativist who just want the races to live separately. The Silver Legion and Aryan Union on the other hand are extreme racist and are opposed by pretty much every single group in North America. There is also an black ethno-state called Paradise State which was formed in response to the rise of these groups. I took a lot of inspiration from Fallout NV's Mr. House with Paradise State. Their capital, Paradise City (built from the flooded ruins of New Orleans) is almost like a paradise (go-figure) compared to many other American cities. It is the gem of the south with clean water, power, and even public transportation. Paradise State and the KKK pretty much leave each other alone as they are both equal in terms of military forces and they both strongly oppose the Aryan Union to the west.

Lol, lasers are a long way from being ready to defend anything against a missile. The best we can do is fry quadcopters after 3-5 seconds. BMD is still the domain of missiles. But that’s irrelevant to your story lol

US_Warfighter

I'm basing this off of NDS statements from 2018 and reports put out by companies like Raytheon and Skunkworks. Additionally, the U.S's Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) current nuclear defense policy is to intercept missiles in the boost phase as anything after this is unlikely to be successful (especially in the case of a large strike). Interceptor missiles are extremely expensive, on average the USAF uses 2-3 missiles just to intercept 1 (as seen in declassified simulations and live-fire exercises from Vandenberg Air Force Base). In a long-term war, this is unsustainable. Even robust systems like Israel's Iron Dome struggles to hit more than 60% of their targets before running out of interceptors. Further more, there has been very little live-fire test with interceptor missiles performing against hypersonic platforms as of 2021. Hypersonic missiles fly lower, are more maneuverable, and much faster than traditional BMs. I had a meeting with an Air Force Colonel in 2019 who stated "intercepting hypersonic missiles with other missiles is more impractical than just hiding in the ground and hoping for the best." Statements like this and others put out by the military analysis community is what inspired me to go with laser air defense. I understand the technology today is far from perfect, with the two biggest problems being is line-of-sight, power generation, and scaling. But I predict this to accelerate as hypersonic platforms become more and more popular. Similar to how unmanned systems developed rapidly (and still are) as weapons like MANPADS and laser-guided should-mounted weapons became more common in the 1980s and 1990s. I'm not saying your wrong because your not. You are correct when saying we are currently far off and no one can predict the future so I'm not saying I'm right either :) .

Hey there! We ask that all posts here have some [context](https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/wiki/rules#wiki_2._all_posts_should_include_original.2C_worldbuilding-related_context.) with some in-universe information about what your world is, what is being shown and how it relates to the larger world. It doesn't need a ton of information—just a few sentences is fine! Would you be able to add this?

US_Warfighter

Done

Lord_Mogs

Excellent, thanks!

A_Shattered_Day

Aw, another map without Dinétah or the Dakota lands, so sad.

US_Warfighter

Don't worry. I got stuff planned for the Dakotas and Navajo parts of the country. I'm actually taking a road trip of southern Utah next year to experience the land myself before I write about it (I also just love deserts). Are you from there? Any recommendations?

A_Shattered_Day

Ooh, interesting! Utah is quite a beautiful country! I am not from there though, I just have an inordinate fascination with indigenous cultures.

johnpjones1775

Well, NFA for lyfe I guess
